After more than nine years of photographing weddings across Texas, I thought I had a pretty good sense of what a perfect wedding day looks like.
Then Lorenne walked out, and I remembered, every single one is completely its own.
Lorenne and Shannon got married this past February on a rooftop in the heart of downtown Dallas, with the city skyline wrapping around them like it was built just for this moment. The design was bold and deeply intentional rich red drapery, lush crimson and pink florals, a black-and-white checkered dance floor, and string lights overhead catching the last of the winter afternoon light.
It was dramatic. It was romantic. It was so them.
In over a decade of doing this work, one thing I’ve learned is that the couples who let themselves be fully present are the ones whose photos are unforgettable. Lorenne is the best example of that I’ve seen in a long time.
Her energy filled every room she walked into. When they were finally pronounced married and she raised her bouquet to the sky laughing, beaming, completely in her moment the entire rooftop erupted. I was clicking as fast as I could and I still feel like I almost couldn’t keep up with her joy.
That’s the kind of photo that lives on a wall for the rest of your life.
I’ve spent the last nine-plus years building my work here in Texas, and this state will always be home base for me. But next month, I’m expanding to New York City and I couldn’t be more excited to bring everything I’ve learned to one of the most incredible wedding cities in the world.
